The Brewery District is a special blend of yesterday and today. Established by German immigrants in the early 1800's, the District was a collection of family owned breweries that thrived for decades, perfecting the art of brewing beer with an Old World tradition. Although Prohibition and the Great Depression eventually caused the breweries demise, the spirit of the German immigrants who established the area lives on. Today the Brewery District is a thriving new business and entertainment center that spans 27 acres of vintage buildings. The renovated brewery buildings house some of Columbus' finest restaurants, unique retail shops, a winery and several small micro-breweries with a fine selection of beers and ales.
